Where the records come from

PropertyPast reads official agency records only: city open data portals and public agency records, never scraped pages. Permit records live in Austin and San Antonio, TX, in unincorporated Harris County (the Houston area's Spring, Cypress, Katy-area and Humble addresses), in New York City, NY (all five boroughs, via the city's two DOB permit datasets), in Casper, WY (city limits), and in Overland Park, Olathe, Topeka and Lawrence, KS (city limits), in Tucson and Gilbert, AZ (city limits), in unincorporated Maricopa County, AZ, in unincorporated Coconino County, AZ (the Flagstaff area — Kachina Village, Munds Park, Forest Lakes, Parks, Tusayan and the rest; Flagstaff, Sedona and Page keep their own city permit offices and publish no open records), and in San Diego, CA (city limits, which is how La Jolla and Rancho Bernardo addresses read) and unincorporated San Diego County, CA, and in Philadelphia, PA (city and county are the same area); recorded sales histories live in New York City, NY, in Maricopa and Pima counties, AZ (the counties' own recorded sales, newest first, labelled recorded sales — never estimated values), and in Philadelphia, PA (the City's own recorded deed transfers with their sale prices and dates, from the Department of Records' real estate transfer records); area crime counts live in Austin, in Houston, TX (city limits) and unincorporated Harris County, in Wichita, KS (city limits), in Casper, WY (city limits, via Casper Police Department's CityProtect page) and in Phoenix, Tucson and Tempe, AZ (city limits, from each police department's own published incident records) and in San Diego, CA (city limits, from San Diego Police Department's published NIBRS incident files) and in Philadelphia, PA (city and county are the same area, from the Philadelphia Police Department's published crime incident records) and in New York City, NY (all five boroughs, from the NYPD's published complaint data); federal records cover every US address. Wherever a city or county publishes no house-by-house records through an official open-data feed yet — the City of Houston, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria and Galveston counties, Wichita and Kansas City KS permits, Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale and Chandler AZ permits, area crime for every other Arizona city (Mesa, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale and the rest publish no incident-level crime data online), recorded sales for the other Arizona counties, New York State outside the five boroughs, permits for Chula Vista, Oceanside, Escondido and every other incorporated city in San Diego County, and every other Wyoming city we checked (Cheyenne, Gillette, Laramie, Rock Springs, Sheridan, Jackson and Evanston) — a report says permit records are not covered for that city yet, never that the house is clean. Each report lists what was checked, what was missing, and the date of the data.
